They say you should dress to the level of the person above you at work – people are more likely to be able to imagine you in that role! Besides, I reckon it helps get you in the mindset and gives you more confidence.

I’ve just got a new job (yay!) so I’m committing to getting together a smart work wardrobe for when I start and dressing better than I do now. Yes, that does include wearing heels and makeup. I’ve got three weeks left in my current job so I’m going to start it now to get used to dressing up more!

Money is a problem... 1 week ago

Money is tight around here right now so my goal is to dress better with what I already have. There may be a position opening up at work and I would like to dress for the job I want.

Day Seven 1 week ago

Day Seven of my 7-day challenge to spice up my wardrobe came and went yesterday. I wore a new yellow, black and white print dress, black cardigan, and very high heels. I looked pretty good, better than I have in awhile. I may try this challenge again in a few days. Anyone want to join me?

Office Chic 1 week ago

I have decided that I am going to start dressing better at work. My rationale for this was that at my old workplace, the women who made an effort to dress up and look pretty each day seemed to get ahead even though they were not necessarily smarter. I dressed ok (I thought) but I never wore heels and my style can best be described as…anti-Vogue.

In an effort to hang on to this job, I think a new strategy is in order and it is unashamedly sexist. I have bought new makeup and I plan to reapply it (well just my lipstick probably) throughout the day. I bought shoes with heels. They have ripped my feet to shreds so I have bought blister stuff too. I have not bought too many new clothes as yet because I don’t like them. This is the problem. I need to find stuff I like. Plus I need to find appropriate clothing. I wore a wrap dress which I felt uncomfortable in because I felt it made me more “busty” and trust me, I don’t need that! One of my work colleagues is 74 (not kidding) and I don’t want to be responsible for what might happen to him.

I’m adding this because I’m sick of looking scruffy all the time! At work we all wear casual stuff – there’s no real dress code – but I think it’s time I put a bit more effort into my appearance. I want to take things a step up and look smarter. I do need to go shopping for some ‘work clothes’ but in the meantime I’m making it a goal to work with what I have.

This week I will wear basic makeup every day!

Day Six - Apple Green 1 week ago

Wore a bright apple-green sweater today and actually got a compliment on it! My biggest problem has always been wearing BLACK every day!! Or gray or brown. But not today!

Days Three, Four and Five! 1 week ago

Days Three, Four and Five (of my goal to wear something a little different every day for seven days) have passed.

Monday I wore a new gray shirt. Granted, it was gray, but it WAS new.

Tuesday, I wore another grey shirt paired with black pants. I guess I miserably failed at my goal on this day.

Wednesday (today) I wore a slate blue top with patterned navy pants and a white blazer. A bit of color and pattern.

What will I wear tomorrow? A pink feather boa?!

Day Two - Prints Not Solids! 2 weeks ago

Made a daring move today and wore a black and white print. I don’t generally wear prints so I guess that counts for something. Though a black and white print is far from being a risk-taker with my wardrobe.

DAY ONE - BROWN TIGHTS AND A SUIT JACKET 2 weeks ago

http://dressbetter.blogspot.com/2008/09/7-days-of-wardrobe-risk-taking.html

I just signed up for the “dress better” goal. My first post to this goal stated that I was going to try to wear something “out of the ordinary” for the next seven days. Something I would not normally wear. Today was day 1, so for today I wore brown tights with a brown dress. BIG STRETCH!! Well I have never worn brown tights before. I’ve always worn brown, and hardly ever wear tights to begin with. The tights went perfectly with the dress and my brown shoes. I think I overdid it on brown today – brown everything! Beige jacket. But I did wear something I normally would never wear.

I also don’t usually wear suit jackets, either. Today I worked for a bit at my part-time weekend job and felt much more professional in a jacket. I had much better posture and felt more confident. I think I will start wearing jackets more often. Though if I change my normal attire too much at work, people will comment excessively or think I am interviewing for another job.
