Another step 3 days ago

I bought two nice suits for work on a shop I just discovered.
The nice sales assistant (who turns to be a former fashion student) proposed to make some nice retouchs on the jackets, to fit them to my body shaped, and it looked beautiful.
I will look less like a potato bag at work.

The discussion I had with the clerk made me want to go further and explore the fashion. Now I care, now I want to dress with style !

There are some more basics on my shopping list, and after that I hunt for some “special” items.

I'm taking a Fashion Styling class for my design major 1 week ago

and it’s been such an eye opener. We have group work to do a test shoot and my group got assigned London as our city of theme. So my job was to research cultural trends and street trends for men and women. Wow. What a blast. I’m super intrigued and I’m so inspired. I love how crazy London fashion can be and I love how outrageous people can get with their style. I’m really envious and wish I could do the same!

And you know what…I want to do the same. So I’ve been web shopping a lot in the last week or so…just looking at pieces that will be worthy investments or at least pieces that I can create to be versatile outfits! I’m finally getting leggings (being daring and got glossy shine ones, which normally I’d dread trying on). I also bought a new bag in jade green (which is such a beautiful color but I normally stick to neutrals and darks with bags)...so that’s really exciting.

The best piece, I think, is from topshop.com which is a British company. I found the website (though I knew about the chain from before) through researching London trends and I had to poke around. I saw this amazing sequined blazer (it’s not all bling and tacky) and I had to get it! It’s a difficult investment but I can’t wait for it to come in! Possibly the bravest purchase ever, since I usually hate sequins with a passion.

I’m just super excited!

I gave away several items of clothing yesterday to charity that I thought made me look too old or frumpy etc. So I felt entitled to buying a casual summer dress and a pretty top today. Both a beautiful blue :)

A fashionable accessory 1 week ago

I got one of those long scarves with fringes at the mall. I looked at every scarf in the mall before I settled on a loosely woven textured scarf; but it had silver and gold sparkly threads of Mylar. I pulled them out. There were about 20 of them.

Instead of looking inapporpriately glittery and cheap, it looks like woven raw silk (it’s actually cotton and polyester from China).

Still struggling 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it has been a lifelong problem for me, so why would I be able to fix it in a couple of years. Maybe this will take me the rest of life to work on – so what? I’m still interested.

I desperately need to put some money into buying some clothing. I have only four blouses which I wear winter and summer. ((sigh))

However, I bought some better fitting new underthings. That was a first step. I don’t know about the guys; but for women that’s important. I got some pretty good service at Victoria’s Secret and the sales associate didn’t want to look at me topless, just snuck bras under the door for me to try on.

Style Mission Accomplished 3 weeks ago

Today I am wearing a fairly long turquoise tunic, black straight leg jeans, a dark brown plaited style head-band with a red bracelet and white/deep purple nike trainers.

I just looked back and have had this goal for almost a year and to be honest, I do dress a lot better in my opinion. There is more diversity, more confidence and I feel beautiful to me :). I wrote an article about what style means to me to recently and I believe I’m at the right place to tick off this goal as accomplished :). I get complimented about my style and I guess I am somewhat original, I dictate what is cool for me and I’m not looking to appear a certain way, I just do what I do, because I want to and that’s real style ;).
