Whew!  — 2 weeks ago

I am a 1st year teacher and I am feeling so overwhelmed, it’s crazy. I mean I second guess everything I do. Where is my confidence. I am just trying to make it through, just 5 weeks to go but I am at my wits end. I want to be a better teacher, now. The kids deserve better and so do I. UUGH

Tired of teaching, and it's only my first year!  — 2 weeks ago

I moved to the south for a teaching job. Kids are rude, lazy, unmotivated, and taught to test. It’s so not me! I feel like a flame trying to burn but I’m constantly being dumped with water. I want to be more organized, I want more time, I need more patience, and I need summer to be here now:)

Worth doing!

well, I hope I’ve done this. actually I quit teaching 2 months ago, because I’ve found a job. but on my last lesson the girls I’ve taught almost start to cry saying that they don’t want any other teacher than me. so I guess that’s the best evidence that I was good at what I was doing.
good luck to all!!!

Always improving...always  — 3 weeks ago

I think this will always be a goal, and it always should be. This is my 4th year teaching. My father has been doing it for 36 years. He is always tweaking his lessons and learning new things. In talking to him, I see that you always think back on your lessons and methods and always try to find ways to improve. My first two years teaching, I felt terrible about how I taught. I know my students learned, but I knew that I wanted to do better. I know it is normal to want to do better. Education is dynamic. It evolves. There are always innovations in education and technology. The focus for now, differentiated instruction and student engagement. I read, study, travel, write and revise it all. It will get easier, but it will never stop changing.

Tired, tired, tired.  — 3 weeks ago

I’d love to hear how other teachers are faring.

I guess we are busy!  — 4 weeks ago

So I look here for the latest entry, AND ITS NOT EVEN THIS MONTHS! LOL. Thats because teachers are busy.

I am trying to be a better teacher. I need to look up stuff for my kids to do, hands on activities, so they do not get bored with the science. I teach HS biology and physical science. They want all students to be writing proficient (all kids, ELL and Special Ed) and be ready for state testing. So that means I run out of time to do the hands on fun stuff.

So hard to plan a lab to do in 1 period as well. So this is why I need to be a better teacher. To teach my kids science, and maybe to get them to love science, while still preparing them for the state TESTS!

Yucky state test!

RANDOM QUESTION: If you went to an American high school,...  — 2 months ago

do you think you learned anything of importance? Do you think high school should be eliminated? Should students graduate from middle school and work for a few years, and then be able to go on to college or some other type of training if they choose to do so. Do you think high school just exists for the sports?

Should high school for American students be abolished or is it actually serving some legitimate purpose?

Cool thing today at school. Today was the start of a new trimester, so...  — 2 months ago

new classes started. In one class, I had the students write three things about themselves. Two things had to be true, and one thing was supposed to be false. They read them and then the other students had to guess which one was false. One boy read his and one thing he said was that he had fifteen toes, and another thing he said was that a doctor did not amputate his leg. I forget what the other thing was. The kids guessed. Both of the ones listed above are true; can’t remember the false one. Turns out he was born without the part of his leg below the knee on his one leg. Of course, we were intrigued by his fifteen toes, so he quite willingly showed us his prosthetic device, and told us that on the end of the stump of his leg there were toes. He was cheerful, matter of fact, cool, accepting, and fun about it. He is a young man that has already learned, at least in part, to take what life throws at him and bounce over and above it. I hope it doesn’t sound bad because it wasn’t. I would have never even have known he had a prosthetic leg if he wouldn’t have brought it up. It was a learning moment for everyone. How to take something bad that life throws at you and rise above it. I bet he has really neat parents.

Is anyone else out there frustrated with teaching?  — 3 months ago

Does anyone have any solutions/suggestions for burn-out? Maybe it’s just because it’s Friday, and I’m tired. Or is the whole world going to hell in a handbasket?

Help. Any answers? Let’s just abolish public schools in America—just think of all the tax money that would be saved. Everybody can homeschool his or her own child. How’s that sound?
