start sewing again

I have the space to do this now that we have our own apartment (finally!). I need to get my little office in order and set up my sewing machine!!! after moving that room has just become the overflow room. (part of my “declutter and organize” goal).

It’s been in storage so long I hope it still works!!

I ended up cleaning up a bit today and found two sewing projects I had started probably a couple of years ago but never finished. Since I knew I wasn’t going to get anything else done today, I decided to finally get those projects done. There wasn’t that much to do, actually, I have no idea why I hadn’t finished them back then. Well anyway, they’re nothing special, just a basic black skirt and a petticoat under it to give it some volume. The skirt without the petticoat looks a bit too plain in my opinion but like that it’s rather cute. Oh yeah and ignore the silver leggings, I just had to try them on because I realised I haven’t worn them even once after I bought them (last spring). :D

I picked up a pattern on the weekend – a real pattern, for a cute, summery dress I’ll actually wear. (As opposed to all the patterns I buy for gorgeous gowns and costumes that I keep meaning to make, but never get around to, and have no reason to wear in any case.) I haven’t bought fabric yet, but I think I have it picked out. I just have to decide on a colour.

I use to be so passionate about sewing. I taught myself how to hand sew, then I took private lessons in middle school to learn how to machine sew. I still have the first skirt and shirt I ever made!

My mom and I were at Wal*mart about a week ago and I was looking at the scrapbooking stuff and I turned and I saw all the sewing stuff and the fabrics and stuff so I walked over and they have a bunch of Indians, Cavs, and Browns fleece fabric, so my mom said in a week or two she’d take me back to buy me some fabric and stuff so I can make myself and my brothers some pillows. YAY!

I swear I’m going to start doing this in the new year, I want to be able to make cute little pillows again and little pillow cases…

My boyfriend and I live with three other people and we don’t have a very big room or living space. But my boyfriend and I are hoping to move in the spring and then I should have enough room to set up my sewing machine!!! I can’t wait!!!!

got out the machine, bought the fabric and am moving in the right direction. Now all I need is to make some room where there aren’t any small children, dogs, cats, daughters or boyfriends – should only take a couple of weeks
