I was reclining on a hammock outside my beach bungalow on the island of Boracay in the PI just after dusk when I noticed twinkling lights in the coconut palm fronds above. It was my first time to see fireflies, and it was amazing. I made it a point to lay there at the same time every evening.

i’d love to see fireflies, they sound so magical and amazing :D for now, though, i am going to have to take them off the list to make room for something else…

I grew up on fireflies, and they’re so cool to watch during those sultry Southern nights. Their pungent smell on my hands, from holding them, is still one I can “smell” mentally. It’s a smell of childhood summer, along with hot, wet, cut grass, and the smell of a summer thunderstorm approaching. I guess I miss the South, although AZ is south and certainly humid enough for me during monsoon season.

From late June to mid-July we get fireflies. I like to sit on the balcony with my dog and watch them before I retire for the night. They are in the catagory (that I like to call) “real-life magic”, like rainbows, hail, hummingbirds, northern lights, falling stars, and lots of other stuff I can’t remember right now.

... I’ve imagined it to be the most beautiful thing. Some hot, humid, steamy climate. Flickering lightning bugs. A mint julep. Maybe a banjo and a porch swing?

I remember seeing them on a trip when I was younger. The whole family was travelling in the RV and we had stopped to camp for the night. Once the light began to fade we started seeing these little lights. It was so amazing and still brings a smile to my face when I think about it. One of the greatest memories of the trip.
Now that I am older I would like to travel some more. It would be great to see fireflies again and relive that magical childlike feeling.
I would love to see fireflies. I have dreamed of seeing one since I was six and found out they existed…
I want to see real fireflies, not just the light up ones at Disneyland’s Pirate’s of the Carribean.
