practice my Spanish

Hello people. i have just moved to spain and i am in full motion of learning Spanish. If any one would like to help me i would be most greatfull.

I spoke with my brother in Spanish the other day. It was hard to do, and I’m pretty sure I got some conjugations wrong, but I did it. I am also translating Maná song lyrics and going over my old flashcards. I’d say I’m making some progress.

tenía la oportunidad de practicar un poco el domingo pasado, con una maestra de Montessori en su escuelita lindísima. ella parecía disfrutarle mucho también. ojalá que tengamos más ocasiones en que podemos charlar.

platicaba un ratito con L. en la fiesta para celebrar la nueva casa de G. & D.

creo que necesito nuevo libro en español. voy a buscar uno la próxima vez que visitamos la biblioteca.

a la finca, donde charlaba con W. mientras que estaban procesando el ajo. Hablamos del tiempo, el proceso de cosechar el ajo, un poco del sembra de los cebollas, de la finca convencional donde él va a introducir los métodos orgánicos, pero fue un poco difícil llevar la conversación. Ese tipo no me parece uno que puede hablar facilmente en cualquier lengua. La belleza, E-S, es muy differente. Ella brilla en el hablar en cualquier idioma, pero parece que ella prefiere hablar en inglés conmigo, no sé porque. Ella pasaba casi toda la tarde hablando con S., y quien no lo haría, S. me fascina también.

C. fue de la fiesta temprano, pero tenía la oportunidad hoy de platicar un poquito con ella y con M. M. me enseñó este verbo “platicar” como sinónimo de “charlar.” Ella también usó la expresión “una floja huevosa” (sobre una maestra que a ella no le gustó) y me explicó que en México se usan “me da hueva” para describir algo aburrido, or “I don’t feel like (doing something)”

Cuando nos despidimos, ella me dije, “Pórtate bien. No, mejor, pórtate mal, pero cuídate bien.”

Ella es bien divertida, ojalá que nos veamos otra vez. Quizás en el verano que viene.

he tenido dos conversaciones esta semana con hispanohablantes, pero eran bastante cortas. espero que tendré la oportunidad de charlar un ratito con C. esta noche a la fiesta. hay muchas personas que hablan español aqui.

Se me occure que claro, tengo que escribir estas entradas en español. Duh.

Hoy hablaba español en tres lugares: en “Niñas en la Ronda”(el programa para mi hijita), en Mr. B’s coffeehouse con mi amiga S., y un poquito en la finca con los internos.

¡Que bueno hallar tantas oportunidades en un día! Me encanta este proyecto de manifestar mis metas.

PD También escribí para mi biblioteca de Google Books un ensayito sobre la novela La pasión de María Magdalena por Juan Tafur, la cual leí el mes pasado.

PPD En la noche también hablaba un ratito con esa C., la cantadora con el grupo que estaba tocando en Mamma D’s.

Today I got to practice with W. (farm intern from Peru) and E-S(farm intern from Mexico) today while doing my CSA share work requirement. We cut up lengths of last year’s garlic strings (serious recycling) and then got to see Tom and Tricia’s fabulous new digger at work. It scrapes the top off the bed and dumps it back down again; all we had to do was fish out the loose garlic, bang the dirt off it and gather it into crates. Then we bunched the garlic, strung it together, and strung bunches together. Fun to chat and work. Also chatted a bit with the teachers at my daughter’s Spanish camp today and yesterday.

Chatted w/I. at the Frenchtown Cafe. He gratifyingly told me my accent was “buenisimo.” I think I will make up a card for him with my number in case he ever runs into a situation where he needs some translation help. His English is almost non-existent.

hmf that accented i in buenisimo keeps morphing randomly into other characters when I publish even though it looks okay in the composing window
