Bible Memorization 15 months ago

I want to memorize 100 chapters of the bible.

Wow, wouldn’t it be great to have 100 chapters of the bible stored in your head? Then you could pull one up like a file on the computer for every situation you find yourself in. I’m going to go for this. I think it’s a great goal.

I've been getting a lot of emails about this. 2 years ago

Apparently, my post has some high-ranking keywords on google, and people are emailing and asking me for tips and insight.

I just had a thought, that this might be a way to get me going on this goal and also to accomplish my goal to lead a memorization group.

Is there anyone out there who wants to be part of a team of Scripture memorizers? This idea is about three minutes old, so I don’t have any plans worked out – I just want to see if anyone is interested in being part of a team.

Post here or email me if you want to be part of this – ladybugsnameisnotpaige@yahoo.com.

My problem 3 years ago

Consistent. Review. AGH!

I can’t quote Hebrews or Ruth anymore. I can hardly quote anything anymore. But at this point, review is rememorizing, and rememorizing is BORING to me.

I have a plan. It’s a little detailed and boring to put here, but I have a plan.

I have memorized:

Obadiah (1 chapter long)
Psalm 1

I am on a system of review and memorizing that keeps stuff in my mind without me getting sick of saying it. Anyone interested in discussing Bible memorization techniques can email me: ladybugsnameisnotpaige@yahoo.com.

Believe it or not, I actually LOVE memorizing stuff. It’s like a hobby. But it requires consistency.

Success! 3 years ago

I ended up only spending a little over 1 hour. That’s okay; I know when my brain has reached the limit and I just can’t quote/memorize/review anymore. So, I rememorized Ruth and reviewed the first 6 chapters of Hebrews. That’s 10 chapters. Somewhere I said that I’d memorize a poem for every ten chapters I memorized. Therefore, I plan to put the rest of Hebrews on hold.

My memorizing goals this week:

-Keep reviewing Ruth and Hebrews 1-6
-Quote Ruth and Hebrews 1-6 to someone
-Start memorizing The Raven

I’m at the perfect moment to memorize. It’s sunny outside. I have nothing better to do. I was just thinking, “what should I do for the next two hours? So here it is – I am going to memorize. In my room until my roommate gets here, and then I’ll grab my blanket and find a spot outside. It’s about 3:30 now, and I plan to go till 5:30. I am motivated! I’ll let you know how it goes! Go me!

Well, today is Thursday. I didn’t memorize. I physically and emotionally felt like crap all day though, and I still do, so I had an excuse. New plan: Sunday afternoon, and if I can’t get it all done then, I’ll do it Tuesday afternoon too. I’m glad I didn’t forget that I’d planned to do it today. That gives me hope that I’ll be prepared Sunday, if I’m not still sick then.

Back to review... 3 years ago

I haven’t reviewed either Hebrews or Ruth for about six months now. I want to know them both really well before I move on to other books/chapters. What’s it going to take to get them both down?

Here’s the plan. I’m going to take a Thursday afternoon (Thursday afternoons are completely free for me), go to the deep bowels of the lower library, and do nothing but memorize and quote until I’m done. It doesn’t take more than a few hours if I can just concentrate for that long. I’ll be sure to bring along some snacks, a water bottle, Kleenex, and anything else that’ll keep me in one spot for a few hours.

Today is April 9, Sunday. I’m going to plan this for next Thursday. If I can do this, I will officially have 15 chapters of my 100 down! I’d like to do an epistle after this – probably Galatians.

Ruth 4 years ago

Edit: I have, indeed, officially finished memorizing Hebrews. I am attempting to review it roughly once every two weeks by quoting it to some patient listener, or several, if none can be found.

My next project is Ruth instead of my originally planned Psalms 1-5 and Galatians. Ruth is for a class project, so I figured I may as well count it here. I have, at this point, memorized Ruth 1 (there are 4 chapters.)

If anyone wishes to memorize a relatively large portion of Scripture and wants some support or advice or coaching or encouragement, please email me at ladybugsnameisnotpaige@yahoo.com.

Hebrews 4 years ago

I’m working on memorizing the book of Hebrews right now. It has 13 chapters. I just finished chapter 10 and I’m concentrating on reviewing the first 10 chapters and memorizing chapter 11 this week. It’s sure a hard book, but I’m liking it more and more now that I’m memorizing it.
