After studying and living in London for about half a year, I cannot wait to travel again. Originally I wanted to study in Japan, but my initial difficulty with the language my freshman year of college has made it just a distant dream.
Worth doing!
Studying abroad in Japan taught me a lot about a complex and beautiful culture. It also brought me one step closer to gaining the confidence I’ve been dreaming about since I realized I was lacking it. Yes, many memories have been made here, sooo… no regrets about this one~ ;D
And yes, it’s amazing how much Japanese you can learn in a mere semester!

join the army and eat soba, I thought about moving toward asian studies but anything past the language is so not interesting to me

What you need in the world are contacts – “networking”. I’m on this right now. But of course it’s not only to gain advantages. I get involved with Japanese and the language course of the university because it means a lot of fun to me. I enjoy spending my time with the people. Today we had been invited for dinner at Prof. Tsuchi’s home. And it was a really great and pleasent evening with my teacher and the guys.
On Feb 28th a japanese fellow from Tokyo visits a friend and in march, I am attending some students from 東大 (Todai – University of Tokyo) that are going to visit Munich and Berlin. I am really looking forward to this. I think that’s passion. Great!!

Turns out I’ll be studying in Kyoto April 2007! I’m sooo excited! But it’s conditional—I need to keep my Japanese grades at least a 3.0. .
Gotta start saving up money~
By this time next year, I should be in Japanese III class at my uni. If I can pass it with a decent grade, I’ll get to go study at Japan for 6 months (exchange students program yadayadayada) and they’ll cover most of the expenses. Wish me luck.

So, I applied through the UC’s Education Abroad Program to study at Doshisha University in Kyoto for the Spring 2007 semester. Hopefully, I’ll get accepted—they’ll let me know by June. [crosses her fingers]
I’m taking Japanese 101 at Michigan State University, and since we have a great study abroad program, I’m hoping to get some sort of scholarship in the next year or two to study abroad in Japan. I have yet to actually have a meeting with the SA department, but that’s one of my first goals after moving back to campus this Thursday.
