i have been practicing a lot, but not the right way. my teacher has convinced me that there is something to studying the scales. he’s so right. i don’t just want to learn enough chords to get by, i want to understand music enough to be able to navigate my way through any song or improv or whatever. i must understand the keys. i plan to impress him my next lesson. i have two weeks.

i found a band looking for a ukulele player. i practiced with the main guy today and it worked out pretty well. we’ll play again next week, and maybe weekly after that. there’s another group i’m checking out on saturday. nothing but uke players. my hopes are high.
also, i’m learning more songs on the 5-string. i can tell that my picking is getting better. my teacher should be impressed with me this weekend.
i haven’t touched my other instruments much, but i feel good that i am making some headway with these two.
my banjo teacher was giving me hell for not practicing. he said he would charge me more if i came unprepared next time. he wasn’t just being a jerk, i sort of gave him permission to put extra pressure on me.
i also have an accordion i need to practice, but the banjo is my current priority.
