i’ve learned the piano my way.
it’s called interpretive playing/finger-dancing.
good luck to the rest of you!
How I did it: youtube tutorials... I found an interesting character who posts really basic steps to learning the piano. I clearly haven't mastered it in 3 weeks of trying but I feel I'm well on my way, steady pace. I can pick up a new song in a day and retain it, along with learning the technicalities to better read and write sheet music. Read how I did it…

I used to take lessons when I was a kid and loved it! I really want to pick it up again.
At Christmas, I found a lot of my old piano music. I played some songs just for my own enjoyment…and worked on until I could play a few of the harder songs I used to be able to play. I’m so excited about this!
When I had taken piano lessons for 9 years from Charles Edwards and piano had become THE love of my life, Charles Edwards had a sudden heart attack and died.
Since then, I sit down at the piano and I can’t touch the keys.
Playing it makes me cry, because all I can think of is my dear teacher that I love and miss so much. My mentor, my friend…I’ve never learned more (in piano AND life) than from him.
In tribute to him, I’m going to go back to the piano. As much as it hurts, I’m going to do him justice, just as I should have continued doing from the moment he passed away. I’m going to make him proud of me.
Nothing fancy. I just want to learn two or three songs so that I can noodle. The stuff I really want to relearn is theory and sight-reading for voice. Oh, and the being in key. That’d be nice.
Vicki Is starting to achieve goals again!
I have finished the first “Teach Yourself Piano” book. Things are coming back much faster than I thought they would. In another couple of months I will probably be ready to find a teacher to take lessons from.
My poor piano has turned into a mere piece of furniture and have been neglected for too many years. I hope I will be able to pick it up again and relearn the notes.

I haven’t actually been relearning the piano… I’ve just been writing songs on it. I guess in a sense I am relearning though, because I’m slowly remembering more chords. The only problem is that I still haven’t remembered how to read sheet music.
I taught myself how to play guitar about 13 years ago and to this day I can’t read music, so I’m not sure exactly how much it really matters… But, I WOULD like to know what I’m playing while I’m playing…and possibly even write my music down instead of just playing it.
I used to play when I was 6 to 9 years old, but then we moved, and we didn’t have room for the piano. After a few years without a piano, I was given a keyboard, but I never picked up an interest in it again and ended up stowing it away.
I pulled it out a few weeks ago, but I quickly found out that I no longer really have any idea what I’m doing on it. I’m going to have to either find a place that gives lessons or see if I can find a way to properly teach myself. I think I’m going to look for sheet music, and attempt to play and practice the easier songs I find.
