I’ve lived in NYC for 3 years now (and only an hour away for the majority of my life) and I’ve never walked across the bridge. How is this even possible?

elizabethlauren is really trying to do this stuff. It's important.
How I did it: One day after work, I took the six train to the City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge stop. I got on the bridge...walked over...got coffee, and walked back! The views were incredible, and there was a waterfall art exhibit up. It was fantastic, and a beautiful day! Read how I did it…

this was awesome and not as hard as you think. it does not take as long as you might think either! It was a perfectly sunny day and there was a nice breeze…it was crowded, but you can sort of walk through people, and dodge bikers, but still have a great experience, we walked across and then walked to the waterside area, we had something to eat and had some wine at the picnic tables they had by the water, then we walked back across the brudge, and we were having so much fun, we kept walking to little italy where we had coffee and cannoli’s. A totally awesome day!! ;) I highly reccommend doing this!!
I was in Lower Manhattan again today and every time I’m down there I think I’m gonna go walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, and yet I haven’t yet taken the time. Actually, in all the times I’ve been to NYC, I’ve yet to set foot in Brooklyn. It’s the only Borough I haven’t been too. (getting off the Staten Island Ferry and then getting right back on again counts damnit!)

I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge last Saturday when I was in New York starting from the Manhattan side and ending up (but not staying) in Brooklyn. It took about half an hour (if that) each way. It was sunny, hot and crowded (see the photo) as this is apparently a very popular thing to do among tourists. The walkway over the bridge is segmented in sections for pedestrians and bicyclists. Most of the pedestrians seemed to be tourists while most of the bicyclers seemed to be locals who got annoyed with all the tourists stepping into their lane to get good pictures. The view of the Manhattan skyline is quite impressive. Interestingly, the first thing you see on the Brooklyn side are some buildings belonging to the Jehovah’s Witnesses conspicuously advertising a religious message.
Like most everybody else, when I got to the Brooklyn side I just turned around and walked back. I don’t know; maybe I should have stayed and explored Brooklyn some… After all, I understand (I could be wrong) that it is the most populous of the five boroughs of New York City… Well, maybe next time…
i used to run the brooklyn bridge after work and definitely recommend it. the view is amazing!
I accomplished all my NYC goals when I took my vacation in May. I had a great time and hope to move to New York when I am done with school.
Oh wow I don’t think I can put into words how excited I was to do this. Like in my icon! That’s Carrie from Sex and the City on the bridge. I was with a group of amazing people (Nicole, Kristen, Benjy, and Felix), my friends from college, and Benjy was like “Yo let’s walk over the Brooklyn Bridge”
[edit: 16.10.08 – half of these people are still amazing, the other half not so much.]
The moon was really bright and orangey-yellowish. No rain…a clear night’s sky. My beautiful and amazing friends…I was so, so happy.
I have blisters today, but I’m not even bothered by them.
Dearest New York,
I love you so.
HobokenMartha loved visiting Seattle!
I would do it again. I should do it again.
This is a new goal but Ive wanted to do this ever since I watched Saturday Night Fever, my favourite film EVER… Does anyone remenber the scene where Tony is sat on the bench comforting stephanie? well, to take her mind off her upset he tells her all about the Brooklyn Bridge (which they are sat in front of)..he talks about how long it took to build and tells her about the person buried in the cement in the bridge…its quite easily the best scene of the whole film…strangely romantic too…
