How to march in a pride parade

Out and Proud <3 4 months ago

I’ve gone to a pride parade. But I think marching in one would be the ultimate experience. I hope I get the chance next year for Chicago, Boystown Pride parade.

I marched in the NYC GLBTQ parade in the summer of 05’.It was so wonderful walking and seeing all the people who were GLBTQ and their families and friends who supported them and loved them.It made me happy to show that i was out and proud and there to celebrate the truimphs of my community.

AMAZING!!!! 14 months ago

I marched with one of my best friends who recently joined the gay community. I’ve never felt so much love!

I'm doing It 16 months ago

I really want to do this.. I was invited by my brother and his boyfriend to join them on the 16th for the march in atlanta. There’s a small pit of fear in my gut for being caught by my mother/religious community.. I come from a muslim family and for me to be able to go and support this to them would be strictly off limits.. as it, dont ask, dont talk about it, dont even think it.. but I’m not going back on what I feel is right. I never felt there was anything wrong with homosexuality, love is love. So If I have to sneak out and break about 100 family/religious rules to support the people i love and something I believe in, so be it.

I'm Going, And i'm going to smile the whole time.

My gay pride day! 17 months ago

Today my boyfriend, my cousin, my best friend, and I marched in Long Island’s gay pride parade with the organization Mango. I forget the acronym but basically it’s gay latinos and they have great parties. Dancing all night long. Auctions (in spanish – me trying to interpret this all to my bf and with my 7th grade spanish knowledge I just say “Hmm i don’t know but he just sold something for bente dollores”)

We had so much fun. I’m thrilled to have a boyfriend who likes my gay friends, is equal rights, women rights, and is not weird or uncomfortable about it. (Like other guy’s I’ve dated. They would get along with wilber but then refuse to be my date at the gay club because they ‘don’t want to get hit on’ and Wilber would tell me that everytime I leave there is extream akward silence lol) (And he’s from India – wow! BFF Wilber said… yeah he’s from india, where they kill gays, Krish probably secretly wants us to die!) and we joked when he dissapeared that he was either A. cruising B. running away C. looking for lesbian PDA hehe nahhh Krish wore the gay pride t-shirt and we got pins that said “Straight but not narrow” “I’m a MAN and I’m for Women’s Choice” or something of that sort and he wore that around. Then he also wore the pin that said “Against abortions? Don’t have one!” aww he’s so cute.

So I had a blast meeting fab drag queens, people watching, and ‘analyzing’ all the people with wilber. (“MAD MAD MAD lesbians” “Biker Dykes” “Chorus line gays” “Weird creepy high school bisexuals” are just a few of the categories we made up.) There were also gay chruches including 2 drag nuns, gays over 50, the (un)justly (non)married group, gay democrats, Gays in the police force, Lesbian Rappers, the red-hat society… among others. It was exciting!

It was 100 degrees and I wore a t-shirt, so I got a really weird arm tan. Other then that today was great and next year I’m SO going in a carrie bradshaw dress __

Today was the 21st anniversary of the Pride Parade in Winnipeg. In 1986, 200 people participated, most wearing paper bags to conceal their identities. This year, there was a crowd of 10,000, none of them hiding. As we celebrate where we are now, we must also remember the struggles of those who went before us.

I’d probably remember it in greater detail had I not personally finished off most of a bottle of white wine at the park – my friends all ended up drinking beer, with the exception of a few swallows of my wine – but I still recall enjoying every bit of the march. Especially when the parade route passed by Good Vibrations, and I tried on a black leather harness (over my jeans) for the first time! Sadly, no photos are allowed in that shop…everything else about it is pretty spectacular though. What an amazing all-around experience that was! I’d been quite enthusiastic at the park before the march, cheering the speakers and such…one girl I’d met along the way there said, “Damn, when girlfriend came out she came OUT!!” I was very complimented. :)

It isn’t as scary as I thought it would be. Everybody there is really happy to see you there; they just want to have fun, you want to have fun, and it’s a really good time. It’s also so encouraging to see so many people from different backgrounds show up to watch and cheer you on.
